Long-time North Bay police officer retires

North Bay Staff Sergeant Mike Tarini has retired.  Tarini turned in his badge after 35 years of policing, all of it in North Bay.

Tarini became a police officer in 1981 and moved up the ranks in the ensuing years.   Over his three-plus decades, Tarini has served in numerous capacities including working on a homicide case in 1986.

In later years Tarini took over community programs and became the North Bay police department’s media liaison.  Tarini was also one of many police officers involved in the G8 and G20 Summit when it was hosted by Toronto in 2010.

A significant accomplishment was ensuring that the name of Detective Constable Fred Lefebvre’s name was added to the wall of honour at the OPP college in Aylmer and the police memorial in Ottawa.

Lefebvre was killed in the line of duty in 1923 and until Tarini stepped in, was never honoured for his sacrifice.  In addition to policing, Tarini has volunteered in several areas and has also been a minor league hockey coach.
