The Wynne Liberals can expect a motion from North Bay city council and a letter from Mayor Al McDonald on the government’s climate change action plan. Both will urge the Liberals on the importance to consult with Northern Ontario and rural communities before moving ahead with climate-related proposals.
The issue came up as the result of a leaked Cabinet document where the Liberals will force people to switch from natural gas to electricity. Several North Bay councillors acknowledged that the Premier has refuted the position which appeared in an article in the Globe and Mail.
Despite this, North Bay council wants the provincial government to consult with the north before approving any proposals. Councillor Mac Bain says switching to electricity from natural gas would have an enormous negative impact on the city budget.
