Police provide details on 22-year-old missing persons case

It has been 22 years since David Allan Chevrier was last seen in North Bay.

City Police are hoping some new information will come up by re-releasing some of the details surrounding his disappearance.

His sister Norah Chevrier says she believes someone knows something. She says it’s frustrating not knowing where he is. Chevrier adds the family remains hopeful something will turn up.

She says she doesn’t believe David is still alive. However, Chevrier says the family wants to be able to finally put their mind at ease and get some closure.

David was 25-years-old in 1994 and had been a resident of a group home on McIntyre Street West.

Detective Constable Dave Wilson says there were various sightings of Chevrier on that date, but only a couple were credible. He says Chevrier was spotted at St. Joseph’s Mother House on Main Street W, and that was believed to be a confirmed sighting based on the information.

Police performed a large scale search of the grounds and by helicopter but nothing turned up in the area.

Chevrier is described as a lighter skinned Aboiriginal Canadian, whose skin turns much darker in the summer.

He is 6’0”and weighs 198 lbs with black hair and brown eyes. David suffered from an intellectual disability and, Police say, he also experienced seizures. Wilson says it’s possible that is a factor in his disappearance.

Wilson says Chevrier was known to walk out to Duchesnay Falls. Wilson says he may have been there alone and experienced a seizure, but there are all kinds of possibilities.

Norah Chevrier says her worst fear is that David suffered and she hopes that is not the case. She added having the North Bay Police put in the effort to keep up the search is something her family really appreciates.

Chevrier says she really misses her brother and hopes somebody knows the truth.
