Hydro pole rental rise could increase cable and internet bills

The MPP for Timmins-James Bay says a plan by Hydro One to increase the rental price of its poles could force internet and cable prices up.  Gilles Bisson says the utility is asking the Ontario Energy Board to let it increase the pole rental charge.

Bisson says if the board approves the Hydro One application, it’s bad news for consumers.  He says that’s because the cable and internet companies will pass their increased costs onto consumer.

Bisson says the only way to prevent the rise in cable and internet prices is to let the OEB know you oppose Hydro’s application.  The Hydro One application is now before the board and calls for the rental price to go up to $70 a year from the current $27.
