Former Magnetawan Chief passes away

A former chief of the Magnetawan First Nation is being mourned today and receiving high praise from Aboriginal leaders.  Word is coming out that Elder Wilmer Noganosh passed away on Tuesday.

Noganosh was a residential school survivor and overcame the adversities of the school to lead his community later in life.  He was Chief of Magnetawan from 1969 to 1979 and then again from 2001 to 2005.

Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day says Nagonosh protected the land for future generations and Grand Council Chief Pat Madahbee says he was a strong believer of First Nation rights.   Four years ago Nagonosh received an Aboriginal Life Achievement award for his work among First Nations.
