Wayne Mathieu scored a shorthanded goal in double overtime to give the Timmins Rock a 7-6 win over the Powassan Voodoos.
The win spoiled a comeback by the Voodoos who trailed 4-1 in the second period and 6-4 late in the third. Gary Mantz and rookie Kyle Challis each had two goals for the Voodoos while Andy Baker and Dayton Murray added singles.
This was the second meeting of the season between the Rock and the Voodoos, and the second win for the Rock. The loss drops to the Voodoos to 4-2-1 on the season. Next up, Powassan travels to Kirkland Lake on Friday for a match-up against the Gold Miners.
