North Bay and District Labour Council’s Food Bank campaign going well so far

The challenge made by the North Bay and District Labour Council to unions in North Bay to help stock the shelves at the Food Bank will help put food on the table for 11 families for the next year.

Labour Council president Henri Giroux says the campaign has collected at least $3,300 in cash donations and 200 pounds of food since August 22nd. He says those figures are enlarged by other cash and food donations directly to the food bank. Giroux says they are probably looking at doing this in the future, concentrating on the summer months to coincide with the labour council’s annual picnic.

In a news release issued last week, Giroux said the labour council has never formally asked unions and union members to support the local food bank. So they weren’t sure how people would respond. But seeing how easy it was for union members to take part was very heartwarming to Giroux.

The labour council is also supporting the Nipissing United Way, which launched its annual fundraiser and hopes to raise $170,000 this year. To help support the campaign, the labour council is hosting its second annual United Way Breakfast on October 14th at the Clarion Resort.
