Tough weekend for Nipissing Laker’s soccer teams

Women’s Soccer:

The Nipissing Lakers managed to salvage the weekend and earn a valuable point on the road during a trip to Ottawa.

The Lakers came away with a loss and tie, dropping a tight game to Ottawa before grabbing a point versus Carleton. The weekend started with a 2-0 loss to Ottawa, who remains undefeated. On Sunday, the Lakers battled back to earn a single point, as they erased a 1-0 deficit against the Ravens.

Nipissing now turns their focus to the second part of the Riley Gallo Cup, as they host Laurentian University Saturday afternoon. The Lakers currently trail 2-0 in both the Riley Gallo Cup and the 705 Challenge Cup. Kick off will be 2:15pm at the Education Centre Field.

Men’s Soccer:

The Lakers were hammered 5-0 on the road by the Carleton Ravens. Carleton scored twice in the first half, including an early marker at the seven-minute mark and three times in the second half to pick up the win and three points. The loss sends the Lakers to a 1-6-1 record and six points out of the final playoff spot with eight games left on the schedule.

Saturday’s game against Laurentian begins a busy stretch for Nipissing, who will play two games a weekend until the end of the year. This weekend’s home game is followed by a road game versus Toronto on Sunday. Eight games are left on the schedule. The Lakers are six points out, so they have their work cut out for them.

Kickoff is at Noon on Saturday at Nipissing University, with Sunday’s game being played at Varsity Field in Toronto Sunday at 2:15pm.
