Big changes announced for North Bay Transit

North Bay Transit has launched a couple of new programs to improve the experience for people taking the bus. First, they’ve launched My Ride NBT. A real-time website that will help riders know when their bus will arrive, and where the bus is on the road at any given time.

People can also look a GPS made to check out routes, and be made aware of any delays a bus may be experiencing. It also allows people to plan their ride ahead of time, by picking routes and destinations. Don’t know what number your stop is? The GPS button allows you to find it online. North Bay Transit Manager, Remi Renaud, says this is an exciting day for transit. They’ve been working on this for a number of years, and it’s now live for people to use.

Also announced was an audible stop announcement system. It will let people inside, and outside the bus know what’s happening. Inside the bus, people will hear what stop is coming up next, and see the stop name displayed. People standing and waiting at the bus stop will be able to hear the route name of any approaching buses. Renaud says a big key for transit was improving the communication features for the buses.

Pretty soon, people won’t ever have to say “where’s my bus?” They’ll now be able to know at all times. Additional accessibility measures have also been added to buses to assist people with disabilities, or people in wheelchairs. Including coloured stanchions, flooring, and a new fold down ramp.
