2017 capital budget process moving forward

City councillors were busy all week debating which projects currently pencilled in for the 2017 capital budget would remain. A majority of council in the end was supportive of the project at Kings Landing moving ahead in 2017. Council also voted in favour of increasing the roads budget by $500,000.

Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette says the debates were healthy, and now they’ll move forward in the process. He says the happy ground between councillors was reaching into the budget surplus for the roads increase, instead of reshuffling the budget.

Forgette says city staff was very helpful to councillors. He was surprised to hear the comments about staff earlier this week. He says if people can’t take time out of their days to meet with staff, that’s their problem. Forgette finished by saying in his time as a councillor and as deputy mayor, he’s always had access to staff and they’ve always been helpful.
