Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Auditor General revealed the Liberal government is spending millions in taxpayer dollars to pay for advertising that only furthers the government’s political interests. The Auditor General’s report indicated that the government spent $49.9 million this year on partisan advertising, compared to $30 million in the previous year. The Auditor also noted that the government’s gutting of independent oversight over advertising has resulted in ads that are both problematic and misleading.
Fedeli says both the Auditor General and Financial Accountability Officer have revealed this Liberal government has subjected Ontario taxpayers to record tax increases and endless cuts to frontline services. He says while this government continues to make life unaffordable for Ontario families, they’re advertising on the taxpayer’s dime. Fedeli says it’s simply unacceptable. Fedeli finished by saying it’s time the government ended this self-promotion on the taxpayer’s dime and focused on addressing the issues that are effecting everyday families.
