“A sense of frustration around the table” as City Council continue to debate the water and sewer budget

The water rate increase looks like it will rival the Dionne Quint’s home as a topic of conversation that just will not go away. Council held a special meeting on Monday night to talk about the water and sewer budget, but just like the last few weeks nothing was accomplished.

Councillor Mark King says there is a sense of frustration around the table. Last week, King and Councillor George Maroosis tabled motions looking to get the water rate increase down. King says this process can become very confusing if you’re not fully up to speed on what the budget means. King says his decisions are based on facts, and believes further deliberation is the right thing to do.

Council has spoken about the desire to have the budgets passed by the end of December, but King mentioned years past when the budget didn’t get passed until April. He says he wouldn’t rule out a similar timeline to get it passed this year.
