Children’s Aid Society of the District of Nipissing and Parry Sound could be looking at a strike

A difference of opinion on workloads for unionized CAS workers could lead to a strike just before Christmas. CUPE representatives are calling out Children’s Aid Society of the District of Nipissing and Parry Sound for putting excessive workloads on its unionized employees.

Local 2049 President Debbie Hill says this heavy work load and the stress it is causing is affecting the way families are served under CAS. Executive Director Gisele Hebert disagrees with this point, saying caseloads have actually been on the decline over the last year with about 70 children leaving CAS care.

She says management is prepared to discuss any other issues, but their position is that the workload is manageable. The union is entering negotiations with CAS until December 23rd to address these issues. Officials say if this is not resolved after that time the frontline workers will be in a legal position to go on strike.
