MP Anthony Rota asking local employers to apply for Canada Summer Jobs 2017

MP Anthony Rota is encouraging any employers in the Nipissing-Timiskaming area looking to hire students aged 15 to 30, to apply for Canada Summer Jobs 2017. Rota says CSJ2017 is a win-win for eligible employers and student workers. He says not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and small businesses in Nipissing-Timiskaming can apply for funding so young people in the area can get summer jobs, expand their skill sets and earn money for their studies.

The application period for the program – which provides funding for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer staff – opened on December 7th. The deadline to apply is January 20th. Approved projects receive wage subsidies of 50 to 100 per cent of the minimum hourly wage and may be eligible to have other costs covered. CSJ creates summer job opportunities and valuable work experience for youth intending to return to full-time studies in the next school year. It also aims to help employers create full-time positions of six to 16 weeks for the summer months that respond to local needs.

In Nipissing-Timiskaming, the CSJ 2017 program will focus on special events, including Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. Successful applicants will be able to hire students as early as April 2017. Last year in Nipissing-Timiskaming, 84 projects were approved for a total of $759,936. The funding created 277 jobs representing 74,041 hours.
