Push for Change rolls through North Bay

Joe Roberts is pushing a shopping cart across Canada raising funds and awareness for youth homelessness. The Push for Change initiative passed through North Bay yesterday, as Roberts continues his quest to end youth homelessness. According to Push for Change, the key is in prevention combined with emergency services and sustainable housing.

Roberts was once homeless himself and says he’s a perfect example of exiting homelessness, but it will take everyone to make change. He knows that changing systems doesn’t happen overnight. He says it took us a generation to figure out that drinking and driving wasn’t cool. Roberts says you first have to raise awareness and get people bought into the possibility that you can change the system. He says from there you have to continue to relentlessly push the advocacy until real change comes about.

Roberts says it’s not only about raising money, but it’s about the conversations that are being sparked at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. He says everyone needs to make their voices heard if they hope to help make some real change moving forward. Roberts says if everyone does something small, then change will come. He says that includes telling politicians you won’t settle for the same old same old. Roberts says politicians need to know that more of the same won’t do, and there’s a link on their website where you can write your MP directly to let him know.
