Talks break down in discussions between CUPE and CAS

The Nipissing and Parry Sound District Children’s Aid Society is expressing regret over the breakdown of mediated talks with CUPE Local 2049, the union representing CAS staff. CAS Executive Director, Gisele Hebert, says they presented an enhanced package that moved them significantly from their final offer on many items including the issue of the Sick Leave Benefit.

Hebert added they also expressed a continued willingness to negotiate. She says they remain committed to reaching an agreement that is fair to their staff and recognizes the reality of limited funding.

CUPE representatives have yet to address what happened during the discussions. Speaking of CUPE, workers will be joined on the picket line today by Ontario Federation President of Labour Chris Buckley. Buckley was invited to attend the picket line by the North Bay and District Labour Council.
