Could a final decision on the Dionne Quints Home be made this week?

A resolution might finally be found in the Dionne Quints home saga this week. The Strong Township proposal, which was pushed forward for two weeks thanks to a motion of reconsideration by Councillor Chris Mayne, will come back before council tomorrow night. But before that, the Friends of the Dionne Home Museum have three public presentations that will be made. It’s expected that the Friends will present their own proposal that would see the home stay in North Bay.

The group has remained steadfast in their belief the home should stay in North Bay since October. Group Chair Jeff Fournier says everyone he’s talked to during this process has backed up what the Friends have been saying. That includes anyone in the province who has anything thing to do with history and heritage.

Fournier says the biggest hiccup has been funding, but that wouldn’t have been an issue had the city acted sooner. He says the city missed out on Canada 150 funding by not applying in time, but doesn’t want to dwell on that. Instead, Fournier wants to move forward. This whole process started with a report from city staff recommending moving the Quints Home to Strong Township back in October.
