Councillor Mark King to bring forward motion to deal with snowbanks at bus stops

The large snowbanks affecting people’s ability to access some bus stops around the city have caught the attention of North Bay city council. Councillor Mark King gave notice of a motion he will be tabling in two weeks to deal with this issue. King says this problem popped up last year as well, but in conversations with city staff he thought they had found a resolution. He says in conversations yesterday it became clear the city didn’t have the amount of people or equipment needed to clean it.

King says they aren’t going to play around with this issue any longer. He says they have a responsibility to the people that use buses. King says they are trying to run a quick, efficient bus service and that can’t be done with snowbanks where bus stops are. King says he won’t put up with it anymore, and it’s going to be fixed. He says he will go out to public tender for snow removal at bus stops, and he believes that will solve the problem.

The motion will be back in front of council on March 7th, and King doesn’t see any further issues because it’s going to get going now. He says that’s so people don’t forget about it, and he expects staff to come back with a report to make this work.
