North Bay Snowmobile President Shawn Flindall confirmed this morning that all snowmobile trails in the area will be closed starting this afternoon. The rain and mild temperatures are causing conditions to change and deteriorate rapidly, which has also effected the ski hill and outdoor rinks also announced today. Officials say that means all trails and waterways require extra caution. The closures include all North Bay trails, as well as trails in South Shore, West Nipissing, and Bonfield.
Flindall says odds aren’t great that the trails will open again this year, unless some miracle of cold weather comes along. The current forecast isn’t calling for minus temperatures in the double digits until Monday, March 6th. If the season is over the region only saw a five-week snowmobile season this year, when the normal season is about 10 weeks long.
