Talks between the Nipissing and Parry Sound Children’s Aid Society and locked out CUPE workers will resume today. CAS Executive Director Gisèle Hébert says the workers, through a mediator reached out to express a desire to get back to the table.
Hébert says she’s looking forward to the meeting. She says the society’s main issues have been sick leave and the health spending account issue. Hebert says they were clear last time they needed to see some movement, but they were always hopeful to receive a call to get back to the table.
CUPE Local 2049 President Debbie Hill says with all the support they’ve received from MPPs recently, they hope CAS sees the importance of getting a deal done. Hill says this is a deal that needs to happen because services are at risk. She says what they’re proposing isn’t outrageous.
Hill hopes there’s going to be some movement on the society’s side, but added they’ve tried to adjust their proposal to address the concerns they’ve brought up. She says hopefully they’ll be able to find some middle ground and get a deal done. The two sides will get together at 10:00am.
