South River residents getting ready for the Taffy Pull this weekend

The cold temperatures recently have delayed the maple syrup season, but it’s not going to stop the annual Taffy Pull in South River this weekend. A cold snap has held back the first official harvest of syrup this year, where in recent years’ local producers were already well on their way through syrup season.

Maple syrup producer and event co-host, Ron McLaren says he can’t guarantee they’ll be making syrup by the weekend, he’s dug deep into his vault and they will have taffy.

The Taffy Pull is on Saturday, March 25 from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Bunker Hill Road. There will be a pulled pork lunch, wagon rides to the sugar bush, tours of the working sugar shack, and photos with bunnies, face painting and much more at the event.
