Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota weighs in on the federal budget

When it comes to this year’s federal budget, Nipissing-Temiskaming Anthony Rota says he’s very happy with what the government is doing. Rota says the federal budget has a number of things in it that will benefit the people in Nipissing and Temiskaming. He says this is a strategic budget based on growing the economy to provide more opportunities for all Canadians.

Rota mentioned $7-billion in new money going towards childcare, and $11-billion going towards a national housing strategy as a couple of pieces of the budget he’s very happy about. He also mentioned the additional $25-million going towards FedNor, with $5-million allotted every year for five years to  gives it solid funding to do more for Northern Ontario. Rota says the whole Northern Ontario caucus lobbied very hard to get those additional funds for FedNor.

Critics of the spending have talked about a lack of spending, but Rota disagrees saying the government is focusing on areas that affect every day Canadians. Rota says another example of that, which he’s glad to see in the budget, is the $2-billion over 11 years to support a broad range of infrastructure programs. He says that includes the investment in broadband that was announced earlier. Rota finished by these infrastructure upgrades are necessary for a lot of communities, and now they’ll see the funding they need.
