Powassan Voodoos a win away from first NOJHL championship in franchise history

The Powassan Voodoos are a win away from the NOJHL championship after a 6-1 Game 3 victory over the Blind River Bears. Powassan now has a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship, ahead of tonight’s Game 4 at 7:30pm. The Beavers actually got on the scoreboard first but the Voodoos rattled off six unanswered goals to win the game walking away.

Gary Mantz had a goal and two assists and Tyson Gilmour added three assists in the victory. Goaltender Nate McDonald, a North Bay native, made 25 saves in the win. McDonald, and the Voodoos are 11-0 in the playoffs with a chance to run the table if they win the championship tonight.

The Powassan Voodoos will be hosting a fan bus to travel to Blind River for Game 4 tonight. The bus is scheduled to leave the Northgate Shopping Centre (near Sears Entrance) at 2:00pm this afternoon. They ask that fans show up for 1:30pm. The cost of the trip including the ticket to the game is $60, and interested fans are asked to contact Jim Bruce at [email protected]. The Voodoos will take the first 50 fans so get there early to reserve your spot on the bus.
