North Bay Police send out road and noise reminders as Spring approaches

The North Bay Police have sent out a couple of reminders for people as we head into spring. Police are asking drivers to slow down and keep an eye out for kids playing outside or riding bikes to help keep the community safe. They’re also asking people to be mindful of noise complaints, including squealing tires and engines without effective exhaust muffling devices.

The noise complaint reminder also includes cranking the music with the windows down in your car, or blaring the tunes too loud in the backyard. Other noise complaints include persistent yelling, shouting, hooting, whistling or singing and persistent dog barking. Anyone hit with a noise offence faces a minimum fine if $200 for a first conviction, or a maximum fine of $5,000. Any subsequent conviction carries a minimum fine of $400 and a maximum fine of $10,000.

When hosting a party, police ask you inform your neighbours about it ahead of time to avoid any noise complaints under the city’s noise by-law. They also ask when you’re playing music in your home to do so at a reasonable level and close your windows to avoid complaints. Under the city’s noise by-law, you can be fined day or night.
