One Kids Place Children’s Treatment Centre has announced that registration is now open for both the 2017 Autism Summer Camps and the OKP-NADY Summer Camp. A release from OKP says these unique camps offer a meaningful series of summer camp opportunities that will benefit children and youth with special needs, and their families. Following the successful launch of these camps in 2015, the Autism Summer Camps continued that momentum with over 85 children and youth participating in these specialized camps last year. This year will see the camps expand beyond North Bay, Muskoka and Parry Sound to now include camps in North Cobalt and Timmins.
All camps are themed and are held for different age groups ranging from the ages of four through eight. The first camp for 2017 starts on July 10th and each camp runs for one week. The camps are being offered free of charge because of the generosity of Mark and Steve Deacon. OKP Executive Director Denis Filiatrault says they are truly grateful for the ongoing support from the Deacon family. He added it’s because of their $100,000 pledge over 5 years that OKP is able to offer these camps to so many children and youth with Autism. Mark Deacon says he feels fortunate to have been able to support the wonderful work that One Kids Place does each day. Deacon says with the first two years of the Autism Summer Camp being so successful, they are pleased that the camps are expanding in both size and across geographies, so that more children and youth with Autism can benefit.
The NADY/OKP Summer recreation programming will once again be offering eight weeks of half day programming for children and youth ages six to 21 who have communication, development and physical disabilities/delays. NADY Executive Lori Venasse says NADY is grateful to have OKP as a partner to ensure that all children and youth have the opportunity to experience a fun summer with their friends.
