Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa, West Nipissing and French River.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts. A cold front is expected this afternoon bringing showers and a few thunderstorms along with it.
There’s also potential for some of these thunderstorms to be severe, with strong gusty winds being the main threat. Winds gusts of 90 km/h are possible in these thunderstorms. Hail is also possible, and the release adds that severe thunderstorms can potentially produce tornadoes.
