Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota says trade relationship between Canada and America still strong

Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota doesn’t see a trade war breaking out between Canada and the United States despite the recently announced softwood lumber tariffs. That was followed by tough talk on NAFTA by U.S. President Donald Trump, who later after a call from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, said instead of pulling out of the trade deal they will instead try to renegotiate it.

Canada and the United States have always had strong relations, especially when it comes to trade, and Rota believes that’s still the case. He says there are some negotiations that have to be had, but added the U.S. has to realize that we’re an important part of their economy as they are a part of ours.

Rota says we have a strong relationship with the United States, and we can’t just go cutting it off. He says he’s sure that the negotiators in future talks will see and understand this. Rota says the problem is the comments that are made in public are sometimes a little bit erratic, and that is a concern. Rota finished by saying Canada is known to be diplomatic, and they plan on working with the United States to come up with fair deals for both countries.
