Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team adds forward Jake Wright from Lakehead University

The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team has announced the addition of forward Jake Wright, who will join the team for the 2017-18 season after transferring from Lakehead University. Wright, a Sault Ste. Marie native, spent two seasons at Lakehead and also had an impressive junior career which was split between the NOJHL and the MJAHL. Lakers head coach Mike McParland says he’s excited to add Wright to the lineup because he should be able to bring some offensive skill to the team. McParland says with two years of OUA experience under his belt, they are looking for Wright to be an impact player.

Wright played two seasons with the Thunderwolves, scoring 12 goals and 27 points after four years of junior hockey. In two seasons with the Soo Thunderbirds, Wright put up 31 goals and 50 assists in 82 games and helped them advance to the Dudley Hewitt Cup. Wright says he’s excited to be coming to Nipissing for school, and to join the hockey program. He’s heard nothing but good things about the school, and is thankful for the opportunity to continue playing given to him by coach McParland.

After success with the Thunderbirds, Wright moved on to play with the Woodstock Slammers in the Maritime Hockey League. He had two strong seasons, scoring 130 points in 103 games. McParland says Wright’s success at the Junior A level, as well as experience playing in the OUA/CIS the last couple seasons will make the transition easier to the Lakers. Wright says his goal, along with the teams, is to get back into the playoffs and make some noise.
