Widdifield’s Near Space Program launches tomorrow

Widdifield Secondary School’s Near Space Program will be launching a technology-toting bait bucket into Earth’s outer stratosphere using a weather balloon tomorrow. The launch procedures will begin at 9:00am, with the balloon lifting off by 10:00am from the school’s football field.

Throughout the day, classes will have the opportunity drop by the control room and learn about the mission.  Information available during the flight will include images transmitted from the balloon via radio signal, the location of the payload on a map, and in terms of longitude, latitude and altitude. There will also be video and images from the chase cars, the GPS location of the chase teams, and general information about high altitude ballooning.
