Planning for Highway 17 fourlaning moving along

The Ministry of Transportation has wrapped up the first two stages of planning on the future four-laning of Highway 17 East between North Bay and Mattawa. The stretch from North Bay to Bonfield, and from Bonfield to Highway 630 is included but past that officials are in the process of developing route alternatives.

While the planning for the first two stages is done, it typically takes anywhere from 10 to 20 years for construction to start. Later this year, a Public Information Centre will be held where people can learn more about the future of the project.
