A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for:

  • North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
  • West Nipissing – French River

Environment Canada says that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

This comes on the heels of a hail storm that hit North Bay Friday morning.

According to the Environment Canada watch, scattered thunderstorms are forming across portions of the province to the east of Georgian Bay into Eastern Ontario in response to an approaching disturbance.

The concerns with these types of thunderstorms are brief wind gusts to 90 km/h, possible hail as large as 2 centimetres, and heavy downpours. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into this evening.
