Just after 1:30 pm, first responders were called to the scene of a bicycle versus transit bus collision. A man was extricated from underneath the bus after being trapped following what witnesses at the scene say was a case of the bus operator not seeing the bicyclist beside him as he turned left from Wyld Street eastbound onto McIntyre Street East.
Dozens of onlookers watched as firefighters carefully removed the man from under the bus. The man was placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital by paramedics. Witnesses say that it appeared the man had suffered serious injuries to his legs.
The operator of the bus was clearly shaken at the scene of the accident. Witnesses also report that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.
The intersection at Wyld and McIntyre Street East will remain closed until at least 3 pm while investigators examine the scene, say North Bay Police.
