Nipissing MP Vic Fedeli says Ontario Northland can benefit from new rail standards for tanker cars announced by the federal government.  The recommendations follow the 2013 Lac Megantic disaster in Quebec where a train hauling oil derailed, caught fire and killed 42 people.

New criteria include rail cars to be doubled walled with steel just more than half an inch thick.  Fedeli says the refurbishment shop at the ONTC is tailored made for this work.   He says the ONTC is more than capable of retrofitting these cars but stresses the Wynne Liberals need to give Ontario Northland the tools to bid on the work.

Fedeli says he will keep after the Liberals to ensure the government opens doors for Ontario Northland to get this work.  Rail cars need to be retrofitted by 2025 and the Tory MPP says this means 10 solid years of steady work at the ONTC on just this contract alone.
