Blue-Green Algae Bloom reported on the south shore of Wasi Lake…

Another blue-green algae bloom has been reported, this time along the south shore of Wasi Lake. The Health Unit advises residents and visitors of Wasi Lake to avoid drinking, cooking, or bathing in the water.

People should also avoid swimming in the lake, and eating fish caught around the algae bloom. Toxins from blue-green algae can irritate the skin, and if ingested, can cause stomach flu like symptoms.

If your skin does come in contact with blue-green algae, wash with soap and water. For more information on blue-green algae visit www.myhealthunit.ca.
