Financial picture improving for Laurentian Ski Hill

The situation for Laurentian Ski Hill has improved.  The chair of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority updated the North Bay chamber of commerce Thursday on the work to keep the hill alive.

Numbers show the hill generates $3 million in economic activity and that doesn’t surprise Dave Mendicino.  When Mendicino served as a city councillor, the ski hill was listed as an asset and attraction when the community was trying to entice new businesses and doctors to come to North Bay.

To keep the hill from closing, it needed $65,000 a year from the 10 member communities under the Conservation Authority.  Mendicino says the capital expenses money is nearing 60 G’s and six out of the 10 communities have donated and the Mattawa-area communities.

The amount includes North Bay’s contribution of $52,000.   The ski hill has put together sponsorship packages of $250 up to $5,000 and it wants the chamber’s expertise on who to approach with its sponsorships.
