The Women & Children’s program at our local hospital is the recipient of nearly $90,000.
That’s thanks to the 9th Annual Farquhar Chrysler Charity Golf Tournament which raised $48,000. Thanks to a community donor who matched the funds, $88,000 is on its way to the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBHRC).
Dennis Murphy, his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Caitlyn have a personal reason for organizing the tournament each year. “When Caitlyn was a baby and needed care, our hospital was there for us. An accurate diagnosis saved her life and our experience inspired us to give back to the NICU, a local cause that is important to us,” said Murphy. “We thank the individuals and businesses in North Bay that support us every year so we can continue our ongoing support of children and babies,” he added.
Farquhar Chrysler Owner and Dealer Principle, Ryan Farquhar, says the Farquhar Chrysler Family understands the importance of our hospital and funding medical equipment, which is not paid for by the province. “At some point we all will need our hospital. Last year 727 babies were born at our hospital and 202 received care in the NICU. We are honoured to be a part of ensuring the best possible equipment is available to care for mothers and their babies,” said Farquhar.

With Dennis retiring as this tournament’s champion, it is our hope that others in our community will take up the reigns and build upon his incredible accomplishments,” stated Tammy Morison, President and CEO of the NBRHC Foundation.
“I am passionate about babies and their families and ensuring they have access to the best possible care, close to home,” shared the tournament-matching donor. “Tournament proceeds along with my matching donation will ensure that the Hugs® system will be fully funded through community generosity and the upgrade will happen sooner,” she added.
The release states the Hugs® system currently in use on the Labour & Delivery unit at NBRHC needs to be upgraded to provide safety and security to all infants in Women & Children’s, which includes Labour & Delivery, NICU and Pediatrics. The Hugs® system is a state-of-the-art security system that is used worldwide and provides our tiniest patients and their families with protection and peace of mind that their baby will be going home with the appropriate guardians.
