Officials say the 2024 Hometown Run for Youth Special Olympics in North Bay was a ‘resounding success’.

Despite the rain, over 90 runners took part in the May 5 event, raising $18,000.

The funds will go towards covering the participation fees for local Special Olympic Youth Athletes (ages 6-21).

“The support from our community is always wonderful to see and greatly appreciated,” says Lisa O’Kane, race co-director. “It was truly amazing to see so many people come out to run and walk while raising funds for our amazing Special Olympic Youth Athletes.”

Race co-director Rob Saunders says they can’t thank the runners and the walkers enough for the funds they have raised.

“This was all done so that we can continue to have great programs that not only support healthy active living but also supports our athletes,” Saunders says.

Officials add early bird pricing has already started for those looking to register for next year’s event.
