City man charged with attempted murder after Wednesday’s shooting

A 21-year-old North Bay man is facing 13 charges, including attempted murder after Wednesday’s shooting in the Birchaven area.

Police say several people gathered on Holy Cross school property to drink alcohol just after 2 am Wednesday when an argument took place.

That’s when police say one person took out a gun and an altercation ensued with the 19-year-old victim shot in the abdomen.

Police say he remains in hospital and is recovering from surgery.

The accused, who also faces several firearms-related charges, was located a short distance away by police and was taken into custody.

Police say a loaded handgun was located nearby and a knife was also seized.

Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School reopened on Thursday after being closed Wednesday for the police investigation.

Police say the parties involved in the incident are known to each other, and have no affiliation to the school.

The accused was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
