Human trafficking charges filed in North Bay

A 55-year-old man from Manitoba is facing eleven charges, including counts related to human trafficking in North Bay.   

The North Bay Police Services says officers on patrol on June 16 received notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition system about a stolen plate on an approaching vehicle.   

Two people were taken into custody at a traffic stop on the 200 block of Lakeshore Drive.   

Police say the investigation revealed the accused was currently involved in human trafficking offences in North Bay.  

Charges include:  

  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • One count of Trafficking in Persons
  • One count of Advertising Sexual Services
  • One count of Procuring/Exercising Control
  • One count of Material Benefit Resulting from Human Trafficking
  • One count of Material Benefits from Sexual Services
  • One count of Withholding Documents
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with an Undertaking
  • One count of Drive Motor Vehicle – No License (Highway Traffic Act)
  • One count of Having Care and Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available (Cannabis Control Act)

The name of the accused, who remains in custody pending an upcoming bail hearing, will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
