We’re learning more about four area seniors’ programs after the province announced $75,000 in funding last week.
Money will be used by Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs for various activities including a walking club, visual arts workshops, robotics sessions and more.
“We are particularly excited about the new square dance project, which will bring together intergenerational dancers for the centennial celebrations of the city of North Bay,” says Arnaud Claude, director at Les Compagnons.
“This project is expected to benefit around 1,000 individuals, fostering a sense of community and inclusion.”
Funding will also see Fit for Life for seniors being offered by the Municipality of Powassan, including physical activities, educational classes, workshops and four bus trips.
Nipissing District Housing Corporation will use its funding for a program that looks to provide a safe and inclusive environment for tenants to gather and participate in a variety of programs and workshops.
The fourth program receiving money includes “Lunch and Learn” and drop-in technology-related social sessions for seniors at the Powassan and District Union Public Library.
All four area programs are expected to benefit upwards of 2,250 people.
“The Senior Community Grants will help individuals, local not-for profit groups and organizations deliver local programs, services and events that empower seniors to be active and connected to family and friends in our community,” says MPP Vic Fedeli. “Programs range from physical activities to exposure to the arts and music, to learning opportunities, day trips, and so much more.”
Last week, the province announced more than 280 community projects across Ontario are receiving up to $6 million.
