A program that has seen success in the North Bay area is expanding to Almaguin and West Parry Sound.
Project Lifesaver uses body worn radio transmitters to help police quickly locate missing people of all ages with cognitive disorders.
The North Bay Police Service joined the program with BAYSAR Search and Rescue in November 2020.
The OPP in North Bay and West Nipissing got involved in June 2021.
The program involving Almaguin Highlands and West Parry Sound OPP is a partnership with the Parry Sound District Paramedic Service.
Police say the OPP is still in charge of the search, and will call out all applicable resources, including the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Helicopter, and more.
“Project Lifesaver is just another tool in the toolbox to assist us”, says Staff Sergeant Doug Vincer from the Almaguin Highlands OPP. “And a great tool it is.”
Earlier this month, Project Lifesaver helped city police quickly locate a missing woman, who’s living with dementia.
