Lane closures a part of two city construction projects

The city is advising of a couple of construction projects taking place next week.

Temporary lane and sidewalk closures are on the way for Algonquin Avenue.

The city says starting Monday and until mid-September, the sidewalk on the west side of Algonquin between Bloem and McLaren streets will be closed for the removal of the retaining wall that’s beside the former St. Joseph’s Hospital site.

Officials say between 7 am and 7 pm each day, the same portion of Algonquin will be reduced to one southbound lane, during the work.

The city also says a culvert replacement project will begin on Sand Dam Road at approximately 7 am on Monday.

It’s expected to be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 28, though some restoration efforts may extend into Thursday.

Traffic through the construction area will be reduced to one lane with access to the Merrick Landfill and cottages on Tomiko Lake remaining open.

Officials say minor delays should be expected.
