Halloween safety tips from North Bay Police

City police are looking to help people keep Halloween fun, spooky, and safe.

They’ve issued a list of safety tips for Oct. 31.

For trick-or-treaters, police say wear brightly coloured costumes or add reflective tape, look both ways before crossing the street, never go inside a home or car, and more.

Police say parents should go with younger children until they’re old enough to travel in groups with friends and inspect the treats before the kids eat them, throwing out damaged or open ones.

Drivers are advised to be extra vigilant on Halloween night and watch out for trick-or-treaters and an increased number of pedestrians.

The North Bay Police Service also says it will have goody bags available for trick-or-treaters who visit the Princess Street West police station after 5 pm on Oct. 31, while supplies last.

Other trick-or-treat options in the city include North Bay Fire and Emergency Services’ popular Halloween night event (5 pm to 8 pm) at Fire Station One on Princess Street West.

The North Bay Battalion will also be handing out treats at Memorial Gardens, starting at 5 pm on Oct. 31.

At Northgate Shopping Centre, there’s two events.

The Mall-O-Ween Strollathon (4 pm – 6 pm) is a fundraiser for the Near North Palliative Care Network and visiting hospice care.

The Shopping Centre is also hosting a Halloween Reptile Camp (4 pm to 7 pm) in Tower Court.
