National honours for Lakers’ rookie and busy weekend in local sports

Nipissing Lakers’ midfielder Hannah Neville has been named to the women’s soccer national All-Rookie team.

Last week, she was named OUA East Division Rookie of the Year last week.

Neville, a Criminal Justice student from Paradise, Newfoundland scored three goals and five assists in 11 games, six of which she started.

The Lakers play Cape Breton Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the USports National Championship at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia.

 

The North Bay Battalion have two road games this week against nationally ranked teams.

The Troops visit Windsor Thursday night.  The Spitfires are ranked 3rd in the CHL Top 10 this week.

London is ranked 4th in Canada and hosts North Bay on Friday night.

 

Undefeated St Joseph-Scollard Hall takes on Algonquin in the NDA junior football final on Friday afternoon.

Kickoff is 4 pm at Cundari Field.

 

In OUA women’s hockey, the Nipissing Lakers face off against Western Friday night in their only game of the weekend.

The stands are expected to be filled for World Girls Hockey Weekend, with the North Bay and District Girls Hockey Association hosting over 70 teams and more than 1,200 players for a tournament.

They’re going to Friday’s Lakers game.

The Nipissing men, meantime, are in Thunder Bay for a couple games Friday night and Saturday against Lakehead.

 

The NOJHL’s Powassan Voodoos are on a western road swing.

They visit the Soo Thunderbirds Friday night, travel to Michigan to play the Soo Eagles on Saturday and visit Blind River on Sunday.

 

In OCAA volleyball, both Canadore teams visit Georgian and Seneca this weekend.

The Panther’s men’s basketball team is home to Fanshawe on Saturday afternoon.

 

In OUA basketball, both Nipissing Lakers teams are home to Laurier on Saturday.
