Lakers win USports consolation final

The Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team won the USports national consolation final on Saturday.

Tori Patterson scored at the 90-minute mark to give Nipissing a 1-0 win over BC’s Trinity Western.

The Lakers entered the tournament as the fifth seed and finish fifth overall in the country.

 

St. Joseph-Scollard Hall won the NDA junior football final on Friday, 8-0 over Algonquin.

The Bears went undefeated on the season.

 

In the OHL, the North Bay Battalion dropped a 6-2 decision in London on Friday night.

Nolan Laird and Reyth Smith scored for the Troops, who are back in action Thursday night at home to Windsor.

In OUA women’s hockey, Nipissing improved to 7-1 on the season with a 4-0 win over Western on Friday night.

Just over 3,200 people watched the game at Memorial Gardens as a part of World Girls Hockey Weekend.

In men’s hockey, Nipissing lost twice to Lakehead, 3-1 on Friday and 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.

The Lakers men’s basketball team has won two straight games to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Nipissing won 85-73 over Wilfred Laurier on the weekend with Alex Blackmore scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. 

On the women’s side, the Lakers lost 61-78 to Wilfred Laurier.

 

In OCAA volleyball, both Canadore teams split their weekend games.

The women defeated Georgian 3-0 and lost 3-1 to Seneca while the men lost 3-1 to Georgian and won 3-0 over Seneca.

In men’s basketball, the Panthers lost 81-72 to Fanshawe.

 

In the NOJHL, Powassan dropped all three of their games on the road on the weekend.

The Voodoos lost 3-2 to the Soo Thunderbirds on Friday, then 3-2 to Soo Eagles in Michigan on Saturday.

Powassan wrapped up weekend play with a 2-1 loss in Blind River on Sunday.
