Time runs out on Troops’ comeback attempt

The North Bay Battalion found themselves down 5-0 just over a minute into the second period against the Windsor Spitfires Thursday night, but mounted a strong comeback attempt that ultimately ran out of time.

The Troops scored the next three goals en route to a 5-3 loss.

Coach Ryan Oulahen says his team battled hard.

“This group continues to show us that they’re not willing to back down,” he says. “They’re going to keep working and are committed.  We just talked about ‘lets just go try to win a period’ to put ourselves into a position to make a push in the third and I thought we did that.”

He says the outcome wasn’t positive but he likes a lot things the team is doing.

“[Windsor] is one of the highest scoring 5-on-5 teams in the league and to hold them to 21 shots, it’s a pretty good job by our guys,” Oulahen says. “I did think we developed a lot of offence, we’ve got to work on bearing down and burying pucks but the effort was there.”

North Bay fired 38 shots on the Windsor net.

Defenceman Zach Wilson scored his first OHL goal while centre Ethan Procyszyn tallied twice for the Battalion.

Next up, is a Sunday afternoon tilt against Sudbury.

“This is going to be really good to have two days to prep for them,” says Oulahen. “It’s a team in our division, it’s going to be tooth and nail all season with them.  We’ve got to find a way to bounce back.  They’ve had two outcomes against us and we’ve got to find a way to get something done on them on Sunday.”

With the North Bay Santa Claus Parade getting underway at noon on Sunday, the Battalion game starts at 3 pm.
