Snow depth listed as ‘normal’ for this time of year

The first snow survey of the season shows a normal amount of snow in the area watershed.

Even though the snowfall in our area is lighter compared to areas further south, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) says average snow depth of 4.6 cm was recorded for its three snow survey sites.

Water equivalency is also normal at 12 mm.

Compared to last year at this time, both figures are down.

“In 2023, the average snow depth for the three sites was 11.1 cm and water equivalence was 22.3 mm at this time of year,” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist.

NBMCA measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
