UNIFOR members collecting toys for LIPI

A 30-year fundraising tradition continues Thursday for Unifor Local 103.  Since 1994, the union has been collecting donations for the Low Income People Involvement (LIPI) Toy Drive.

Officials say the initiative started after LIPI supported their members, who were on the picket line at the time, to ensure their children had gifts under their trees on Christmas morning.

“Every year since then the union and its members, supported by Ontario Northland have held a toy drive to give back to the broader community,” says Jeremy Rodgers President of Unifor Local 103. “To date, a staggering $170,000 and 60 half ton truck loads of toys has been donated through our give back toy drive.”

Rodgers says they’ve added a GoFundMe page this year and have expanded the toy drive to include members and management from Gateway Cascades Casino, Dyno Nobel and DSI in Sturgeon Falls.

Toys can be dropped off at Ontario Northland, at 555 Oak Street.
