North Bay tapping into Housing Accelerator Fund

The federal government has reached agreements with nearly two dozen Ontario communities, including North Bay, to accelerate housing construction.

All told, over 4,200 homes will be built in 23 communities over the next three years.

Officials say $138 million is being provided to eliminate barriers to building much-needed homes faster.

“Our government is committed to removing barriers and cutting red tap to enable housing development, and these partnerships with Ontario communities will do just that.” says Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities

Ottawa says action plans are required by communities to tap into the money from the Housing Accelerator Fund, with subsequent payments after results are delivered.

There aren’t any specifics on the North Bay funding, as yet but the city approved it’s housing action plan in May 2023.

Across Canada, officials say the fund is cutting red tape and fast-tracking at least 112,000 new homes by 2028.
