The community is being invited to the official opening of Le Carnaval des Compagnons on Sunday.
It’s the 62nd event celebrating French-Canadian heritage locally.
Sunday’s event at Lee Park starts at 4 pm and includes dog sled rides, skating, sliding, a light train, games, the lighting of the symbolic flame and more.
There will also be fireworks just after 6 pm.
Mayor Peter Chirico told council this week it’s the second oldest Le Carnaval, behind only Quebec City.
“The whole week celebrating our Francophone community is tremendous,” says Chirico. “Please get out and attend the events. Enjoy yourselves.”
Week-long Le Carnaval activities include an arts evening, performances, dance party, Boreal Day with a host of activities Feb. 8 at the West Ferris Arena and 176 Lakeshore.
That afternoon at 3 pm, Bonhomme will be unveiled with a closing concert at night at the Capitol Centre.

In Field, Carnival has begun.
For the next ten days, events will be happening in the community, including kids dances, hockey tournaments, family skating, outdoor games, and more.
Key events this year include the West Nipissing Lynx against local fire fighters’ game, raising funds for the fire department.
The event wraps on February 9th with the finals of Chuck’s hockey tournament.
